The Story Behind the Picture:
«The photograph portrays the Basilica of the Santissima Annunziata in the heart of the historic Renaissance center of Florence, a few steps from the famous Brunelleschi‘s dome.
During the pandemic, Italy was one of the hardest hit countries and for a long time going to mass was one of the few activities allowed to do. Therefore, in this period, religious ceremonies were greatly frequented by many faithful and by those, like me, who wanted to escape from the lockdown and were moved by the desire for free- dom of exploration and curiosity.
During a mass, a man stole my attention by moving to one of the side chapels to pray. I decided to follow him and immortalize the scene from an oblique view that would maintain its intimacy and leave room for the observer‘s imagination. The captured space is an intimate, reserved, collected space that, despite the signs of time, reveals at a glance the splendor of one of the most stunning churches in the city.»
