The Story Behind the Picture:
Résidence Universitaire Jourdan, Eric Lapierre.
«On our final day of the seminar week in Paris, we visited a student building located near the Cité Universitaire in the 14th district. We spent some time in the entrance area because Eric Lapierre didn’t show up as planned. The building is renowned for its numerous com- munal spaces, which we were able to explore independently. This experience felt perhaps more authentic than a guided tour 😉
The construction of the building was completed in 2017. In addition to student housing, it also features a parking facility and a bus repair shop.
The spaces within the building are organized in a cascading manner. As we ascended the staircase, we noticed terraces on the left side, which are enclosed and used by the community. This diagonal ar- rangement is mirrored on both sides of the building. On the street-fa- cing side, we observed the slanted elevator rails, although it was out of order. These diagonal elements connect the entrance to the main collective spaces on the roof.»
